Gabriel Jesus provides major Arsenal injury update as Mikel Arteta given huge boost

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has provided an update on his recovery from injury.

The Brazilian has been out of action since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during January's FA Cup defeat at home to Manchester United. Jesus has regularly shared updates of his recovery on social media as he steps up his rehabilitation.

While the striker is making good progress in his recovery - it may still be some time until he is fit enough to be available for selection to Gunnersboss Mikel Arteta. The 28-year-old was not included in the club's Champions League squad - hinting that Arsenal do not expect him to be available for the majority of their group games.

And Jesus has now provided an update on his recovery in Arsenal’s latest matchday programme. Arteta's team thrashed Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening last time out at the Emirates Stadium.

"I’m feeling great. My knee is responding very well," he said. "I’m looking forward to being around the team again soon, to come back to do what I love to do. It’s been too long.

"An injury like this, one that is so long, you split up the recovery periods into smaller timings. So now I’m at the stage where I need to hold myself back a little bit because I’m doing great work outside on the pitches, but it’s tricky because I need to not rush myself too hard over the line.

"When you can see the end it’s important you don’t push too hard, keep my feet on the floor, and then as soon as the time comes, I will be ready."

Other Arsenal injuries include captain Martin Odegaard, who is set to miss Sunday's game at home to Crystal Palace. Arteta is expecting the Norwegian to be out for a few more weeks with a knee injury.

The Gunners are also without Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke - both of whom are also recovering from knee injuries that will keep them out until next month at the very earliest.
