Pop superstar Katy Perry is apparently feeling uncomfortable about the public reaction to her newsworthy Blue Origin voyage — not because she went, but because of the spectacle it became.
The 40-year-old singer made history, as part of Blue Origin NS-31, the all-female crew in Jeff Bezos' capsule that departed from Texas for an 11-minute suborbital mission.
Perry, at least at first, viewed the trip as an empowerment event — 'It's about making space for future women, and taking up space, and belonging,' she told waiting reporters just after landing — but the internet seemed to have other plans.

According to the Daily Mail, while Perry doesn’t regret taking part in the mission — which she described as ‘life-changing’ — she does regret how she presented it. A source close to the star revealed she feels embarrassed about ‘kissing the ground’ after landing and the dramatic close-up moments captured inside the capsule. 'Katy doesn’t regret going to space. It was life-changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it,' a source quoted by the Daily Mail revealed.
‘She wishes she’d kept it quieter,’ the source added.

The journey quickly became a lightning rod for criticism. The Grammy-nominated singer held a daisy up to the sky as she emerged from the capsule, then dropped to her knees to kiss the ground in a scene some viewers branded performative.
The mission, funded by Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin, also came under fire for its environmental impact and perceived frivolity. Model and activist Emily Ratajkowski called the spectacle ‘beyond parody’ and accused the crew of ‘destroying the planet for a photo op’.
Actor Olivia Wilde mocked Perry’s post-landing theatrics, writing, ‘Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess’, while Olivia Munn slammed the mission as ‘obnoxious’ and lacking any scientific value. Comedian Amy Schumer added a sarcastic twist with a spoof video, joking that she’d been invited last-minute and brought a random toy as her space memento. ‘I was on the tube, and they texted me,’ she quipped.

Journalist Gayle King, one of the six crew members, defended her decision to join the historic all-female flight. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she insisted there was ‘nothing frivolous’ about the mission and said she was ‘very saddened’ by the trolling and negativity.
Katy Perry’s cosmic moment? This flight was supposed to be a defining moment — and in a way, it was. Perry, who hasn’t had a UK chart-topper since 2017’s Feels with Calvin Harris, became a trending topic once again. But for now, her team is staying quiet while the popstar’s ‘space glam’ fades and the internet moves on.
