Mumbai’s monsoon has once again shown how unforgiving it can be. In just 24 hours, the city was lashed with nearly 300 mm of rainfall, enough to throw life out of gear. Streets turned into rivers, local trains crawled to a halt, flights were delayed or diverted, and schools and colleges stayed shut for a third straight day. But what truly grabbed attention was a viral video showing megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Prateeksha bungalow waterlogged.
The 44-second clip reveals rainwater gushing through the area leading to Prateeksha’s main gate, leaving the approach completely submerged. At one point, as security staff left the wooden gate ajar, the camera peeks inside, capturing water already seeping into the premises of the residence. The bungalow, recently gifted by Amitabh Bachchan to his daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda, wasn’t spared despite its high-profile address.
The person filming the video can be heard remarking on the irony of the moment, saying even those worth “thousands of crores” cannot escape Mumbai’s floods. They even joked that Bachchan himself had stepped out with a wiper to clear the water.

More than 34 train services have been cancelled and over 250 flights disrupted. According to ANI, authorities have issued a travel alert urging commuters to check updated schedules and plan journeys carefully. With water levels still high in several areas, passengers are facing sudden cancellations, overcrowded stations, and long delays.
The impact of the downpour extends beyond Mumbai. Heavy rains and floods have claimed six lives across Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, while five people remain missing in Nanded district, according to the state disaster management department. Rescue operations are underway, with 18 NDRF teams and six SDRF teams deployed across the state. In Nanded’s Mukhed area, SDRF teams evacuated 293 stranded residents to safety.
In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all government and semi-government offices on Tuesday, while advising private companies to allow employees to work from home, barring essential and emergency services. The order followed a red alert from the India Meteorological Department warning of extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs.
