SpiceJet has added three new aircraft, an Airbus A340 wide-body and two Boeing 737s, to its operational fleet, marking the start of its winter expansion plan aimed at meeting the growing demand for air travel during the holiday season, the airline announced Friday.
The new aircraft will begin operations between October 10 and 11, according to the airline. This marks the first phase of a larger fleet ramp-up that will see a total of 20 new aircraft inducted under a damp lease model between October and November.
Additionally, four previously grounded planes will return to service by mid-December, SpiceJet informed the exchanges.
SpiceJet shares were trading at Rs 34.78 apiece on the BSE, up 5.11% on Friday as of 9.57 AM.
The airline said the expansion is part of a strategy to scale up operations and enhance capacity over the coming months. SpiceJet plans to more than double its operational fleet and triple its available seat kilometers (ASKM) by December 2025.
Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, said, that this is just the beginning of a large-scale expansion that will redefine SpiceJet’s operations this winter.
"With every new induction, we are strengthening our operational capabilities, opening new routes, and ensuring greater convenience and connectivity for our passengers across India and beyond. These new inductions will more than double our operational fleet and triple our ASKM by December 2025. Our fleet expansion reflects the robust travel demand we are witnessing and our readiness to meet it with confidence,” he added.
