Navratri 2025: Navratri... means devotion, fasting, and the blessings of Goddess Durga. This nine-day austerity is not only a symbol of our faith but also a way to purify the body and mind. But have you ever wondered why, even after fasting, you might experience bloating, acidity, or gas?
In fact, all this is due to mistakes we often overlook. If you want to observe this year's Navratri fast without any problems, avoid these 5 mistakes.

Too much fried and spicy food
Fasting doesn't mean you should fill your stomach with buckwheat puris, pakodas, and potato chips. These foods become heavy due to frying in oil and are difficult to digest. This can cause gas and acidity in the stomach. Try to eat boiled, roasted, or less oily foods, such as sago khichdi, potatoes with yogurt, or fruit.
Consuming tea or coffee on an empty stomach
Drinking tea or coffee on an empty stomach is a major mistake during fasting. The caffeine in tea and coffee increases stomach acid production, which can lead to acidity and heartburn. Instead, you can drink lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water, or fruit juice, which will keep you hydrated and soothe your stomach.
Drinking Less Water
During fasting, people often focus on their eating habits but forget to drink water. Dehydration can cause constipation and acidity. Therefore, drink adequate amounts of water throughout the day. You can also consume water-rich fruits like cucumber, watermelon, and radish.
Eating Too Many Citrus Fruits
Some people believe that eating fruit during fasting is best. This is true, but limit citrus fruits. If you already have acidity, avoid eating citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, or seasonal fruits on an empty stomach. You can instead eat bananas, papayas, or apples, which are lighter on the stomach.
Staying on an empty stomach for extended periods
Some people abstain from eating anything from morning to evening during the fast. This causes acid to build up in the stomach, leading to gas and acidity. Eat light meals every now and then. Eating soaked almonds, walnuts, and bananas in the morning helps maintain energy throughout the day.

Keep these things in mind.
Start the morning: Eat soaked nuts or a banana with lukewarm water.
During the day: Consume fruit, yogurt, or buttermilk.
For lunch: Eat sago khichdi with less oil, water chestnuts, or buckwheat roti, and yogurt.
In the evening: Eat light snacks like makhana or roasted peanuts.
At night: Go to bed with light vegetables and roti or drink milk.
