Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To control increasing number of accidents taking place due to drunk driving, traffic police will soon receive more number of breath analysers.
Traffic officials have made a demand for gadgets as the present number of breath analysers is insufficient to keep the drunk drivers in check.
There have been several road accidents during night. In majority of cases, police found that the drivers of four-wheelers were drunk and failed to control the vehicles resulting in severe injuries and even deaths.
According to officials, traffic police have 15 breath analysers, which are insufficient. This means that traffic police can check drunk driving at limited road crossings and areas.
Deputy commissioner of police, traffic, Sanjay Singh said a demand had been raised for 50 more breath analysers. Once the traffic department receives them, a massive drive will be launched against drunk drivers in the city. More checkpoints will be established where two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers will be checked to ascertain if they are driving in an inebriated state. “The drive will help in reducing number of accidents due to drunk driving,” Singh added.
According to traffic police officials, people visit bars, clubs and hotels outside city limits for consuming liquor. They drive back to the city under influence of alcohol posing threat to themselves and others as well.
After receiving more breath analysers, drive will also be launched at entry points of the city to take action against such people.
