India, renowned for its rich spices and bold flavours, often presents a challenge to foreign palates accustomed to milder tastes. Still, many tourists explore local dishes and set themselves thrilling culinary adventure. One such experience was lived by British vlogger Deanna, who tried the famous ‘Masala soda’ during her trip to Kerala. Did she enjoy it? Well, her reaction spoke for itself.
Deanna, who goes by the username ‘sociallywanderful’ on Instagram was exploring Palakkad, a town in South India, when she decided to step down from her vehicle and try something desi from a local store. Paratha or beef curry? No! She asked for a unique local drink at the street stall.
Accompanied by fellow vlogger Abhinav Reddy, Deanna tried masala soda. She captured her candid reaction to the drink in a now-viral Instagram reel titled, “First time trying masala soda in Kerala, India”.

The video showed her taking a sip of the local drink and immediately giving her feedback. Her thoughts were clear that she didn’t like it.
Her initial excitement quickly turned to mild disgust after a few sips, making it obvious she didn’t enjoy the soda.
“As you can tell, it was not my cup of tea. The flavours were STRONG, and it’s definitely not something I’d typically order. But it was good to try,” she admitted, laughing off the experience.
While she pointed out that the beverage was not her type, she asked her audience, “Would you try masala soda?”. The comment section was soon flooded with responses.
One viewer remarked, “This drink is refreshing. You must try it, good for summer.” Another said, “I also can’t (drink this)”.
The reel, posted on 6 May, has since gone viral, amassing over 6,000 likes on Instagram.
