VIDEO: SpiceJet Mumbai-Srinagar Flight Delayed By Over 7 Hrs, Passengers Allege Partial Refund By Airline

Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 1 was taken in uproar by flyers on Monday morning as the flight to Srinagar was delayed by more than seven hours.

SpiceJet's flight no SG944 from Mumbai to Srinagar on Monday was delayed by more than seven hours. The flight, which was scheduled to depart at 7am had completed security checking and boarding of passengers. However, the passengers were later asked to alight from the flight after the airline announced a delay.

The exasperated passengers, who had to deboard the flight, created ruckus at the airport as the airline failed to provide any reason for the delay. Multiple visuals of altercations between the passengers and SpiceJet's ground staff also surfaced on social media.

These visuals showed verbal spat between the flyers and the airline crew. The frustrated passengers could be seen questionning the airline officials about the reason behind the delay and why were they asked to be deplaned. Some could also be heard complaining about the flight's air conditioning system to be shut all the while.

However, after all the drama at the airport, the flight finally departed at 2.05pm and landed in Srinagar at 5.15pm. The return flight SG948, which was supposed to depart at 9.55am from Srinagar, also faced delay of more than eight hours and left the airport at 6.15pm, reaching Mumbai at 9.30pm. The same Mumbai to Srinagar flight was also delayed by 15 minutes on Sunday.

Passengers took to social media to share their frustration against the airline. An X user Astika Kudali complained about the airline providing only partial refund against the delay. “They are offering a partial refund whereas purchasing a ticket on the spot is double the price of the ticket purchased. Shouldn't they offer a seat in an alternate flight? How is this acceptable? What scam is this?” she said.

The Free Press Journal contacted SpiceJet but did not receive reply from the airline until the news was published.
