Lexi Jones, the youngest child of the late music legend and his wife has proved she’s inherited her father’s affinity for music as she kickstarted her singing career this week with the release of her debut album, Xandri.
Yet while many could presume that Lexi is keen to capitalise on her father’s name and legacy, the singer is quite the opposite as she took to social media to share an emotional poem with fans that highlighted her struggle with being forever compared to such a beloved musical star.
Slamming claims that she was seeking to replicate her chart-star father’s success and standing in the business, Lexi told her followers: "David Bowie’s Daughter, that gets your attention, ay?"

She insisted: “I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name. They see the blood, they hear the sound, yet fail to see me, don’t feel the same.”
Lexi continued: “They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light. But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done. By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”
Concluding her poem with a reminder that she is “not a copy” and “not a shadow”, Lexi — who also took issue with people saying her voice and sound resembled that of her late father— concluded: “I’m not trying to fill his shoes. I’m just trying to find my own peace.”
And it appears that visceral honesty resonated with many others around the , including fellow celebrities that had been trying to emerge from their parents’ shadows, such as actress , the daughter of ’s , and singer Violet Grohl, the daughter of - who both liked the post.
Eager for her labour of love to speak for itself, singer and visual artist Lexi poured her heart and soul into her new work, with every track being written, sung and produced by the star, as well as designing the album artwork to accompany it.
Yet while Lexi is keen to distance herself in some respects, there’s no denying how much of an influence Bowie had on her growing up - and for encouraging her to find a love of music and expression.
David sadly died back in January 2016 after a private battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. He left behind his wife, supermodel Iman, daughter Lexi, who was just 15 at the time, and his older son Duncan Jones, from his previous marriage to .

Reflecting on his death back in January 2024, as part of Mental Health Awareness Month - and the eight anniversary of his death - Lexi admitted that things were far from easy in the aftermath.
She wrote: “Situating myself in situations that contributed to the already crumbling foundation of my family eventually led to lonely isolation, unexpected fatalities of loved ones and even ones I’ve nearly had myself.”
“I confused living life with surviving life’s days by filling my body’s bottomless void, drowning myself in toxins and poison.”
Along the way, she said, she had “hurt the ones I love the most with hateful words to make them feel at least a bit of the pain I went through every day”.
She even confessed to having “labelled myself as a psychopath” in a bid to avoid having to face introspection, but thankfully she was able to work through her grief and come out the other side as a stronger person.
“I learned to forgive myself for all I have done, never dwelling on my past, for it is something I can never change,” she said. “Though learning to find contentment in accepting what is out of my control, I just remind myself of that little girl I used to be.”
One way of finding herself again came in the form of art, which Lexi has been using as a “coping mechanism” to get through difficult patches in her life.
