Jesper Lindstrom may have played his last game for after having a hernia operation. Lindstrom, 25, had surgery on Thursday and Everton boss is unsure if he will be back before the season ends on May 25.

The Denmark winger joined the Blues on loan from Napoli last summer and although he only managed one Premier League assist, he had improved under Moyes.

Lindstrom was also key in helping Eintracht Frankfurt, then under boss , win the in 2022. Moyes said: “Well, unfortunately, Jesper had a hernia operation yesterday, so that’ll probably rule Jesper out for most of the season now.

“So that’s disappointing for him and for us because he’d started to show some decent form in the last month or so, he was important player for us.” Moyes did report better news on the injury front and in addition to having Dwight McNeil back, he revealed striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back working on the grass.

Calvert-Lewin, 28, has been out with a hamstring injury since the end of January and Moyes says the former England hitman should be back in contention in three weeks. Calvert-Lewin, who has only scored three goals for Everton this season, is out of contract in the summer and has rejected the club’s offer of a new deal.

“Dom’s out on the grass and he’s training,” said Moyes. “I think because it’s been a hamstring injury, it’s not the sort of thing where we can say ‘hey, we can speed it up greatly and bring them back’.

“I think we’re trying to follow all the protocols with it and try not to bring him back too quickly. But we’re sort of roughly thinking, we’ve got another three weeks on Dom before we’re even probably talking about getting him back into full-time training or games yet.

“I’m not sure, but we certainly think we’ll give him another three weeks before we we can start mentioning him.”
