Katy Perry has been critcised by the family of a veteran as she pushes for "justice" in her legal battle against him.The pop star is seeking $6million from terminally ill veteran Carl Westcott, 85, for back rent and damage repairs to the enormous home she purchased from him five years ago.
However, Carl's sons have accused Katy of pushing for a "painful legal battle while our father, a mentally disabled Army veteran, is in declining health.” Carl, who is now bedridden, is fighting for the remainder of the $15million purchase price of his home.
The veteran has already received $9million for his former mansion in Montecito, California having sold it to Katy during the pandemic. Speaking in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday, Katy claimed that she is not just after monetary compensation in her lawsuit but she's also seeking justice.

When questioned if she stands to "gain money or anything else from the outcome of this litigation," Katy replied: "Yes.....justice. I stand to lose money if it does not work in my favour."
Katy told the court that she already owned three other houses in the Santa Barbara area when she agreed to pay $15 million cash for Carl's home, using her business manager, Bernie Gudvi as her agent.
Days after signing the contract, Carl, who suffers from an incurable brain disorder, attempted to back out of the deal. He claimed he was under the influence of painkillers when he signed.
Katy, and her now ex Orlando Bloom, contested him and insisted they wanted to keep the home. Carl had launched legal battle to void the sales contact, but Katy and Orlando won.
Now, they are back in court as Katy seeks $6million. The singer alleges nearly $2.5 million in damages to the sprawling, 2.5-acre property and the $3.5 million in back rent she could have charged during her lengthy legal fight.
Katy's lawyers later reduced their damages claim to $1.3 million, knocking $1.2 million off the bill. Following the court appearance, one of Carl's sons, Chart, slammed Katy's "justice" comment.
"Katy talks about seeking ‘justice’, but for five years my family has endured a painful legal battle while our father, a mentally disabled 85-year-old Army veteran, is in declining health," he told the US Sun.
"The real buyer was Orlando Bloom, yet that only came to light years later. Katy already owns multiple homes in Montecito and has extraordinary wealth.
"She could live anywhere in the world, but she chose to press forward in a way that has deeply hurt our family. We wish there had been more empathy, more humanity, and more understanding.”
While in court, Katy confessed that by the time the title to the property was transferred in 2024, the listed owner of the house was a LLC company controlled by her now-ex Orlando.
Responding to a suggestion from Carl's lawyer Andrew Thomas that it was Orlando who forked out some $5 million for repairs and renovations to the house, she stated she had a role in the project as "Orlando's partner and advisor".
When asked by Thomas, "Do you have any financial stake of any kind in the outcome of this litigation," Katy responded: "My financial stake could be lost money, lawyers fees, lost rental income - all of the above."
The Mirror has contacted Katy's representative for comment.
