Jasprit Bumrah Suffers Fresh Knee Injury, Likely to Miss Asia Cup Amid Recovery Concerns

Send Push

Team India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah missed the Oval Test, and it’s now confirmed that it wasn’t just routine rest—he has suffered a knee injury. Initially, the BCCI announced on July 31 that Bumrah was released from the squad, but the actual reason has come to light through recent reports.

Injury not serious, but Asia Cup in doubt

According to Mumbai Mirror, Bumrah’s knee issue is not critical and doesn’t require surgery. His scans are currently under review by the BCCI medical team, and he is expected to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI's Center of Excellence. However, he is unlikely to feature in the Asia Cup, as he may be rested to prevent aggravation.

Bumrah’s performance in England

The England tour was underwhelming for Bumrah. Despite claiming 14 wickets in three Tests, including two five-wicket hauls, his pace noticeably dropped, especially in the Manchester Test where he barely touched 140 km/h. Concerns over his fitness had already started brewing, and his absence in the crucial Oval Test has left fans disappointed.

What’s next?

Bumrah’s recovery will be closely monitored with a view to keep him ready for more important fixtures ahead. For now, Team India will need to prepare without their pace spearhead for the upcoming Asia Cup challenge.
