Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain may resume in Odisha from August 12 under the influence of a low-pressure area, which is likely to form over northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 13.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Malkangiri and Koraput districts on August 12-13.
On August 12, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Kalahandi. There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.
On August 13, heavy rain may become widespread and lash one or two places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi and Kandhamal along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph. There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.
Squally weather may prevail with wind speed of 40-40 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along South Odisha coasts on August 12-13.
The IMD has also warned of heavy rain at one or two places in Koraput and Malkangiri districts on August 14.
In its extended weather outlook on August 7, the weather agency had forecast formation of a low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast around August 13. “There is a likely formation of an upper-air cyclonic circulation /low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts towards the end of week 2 (August 15-21),” it added.

Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
August 10: Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nuapada and Kalahandi.
August 11: Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
