Montenegro has been voted one of the most underrated in the world - and it even has its own version of Niagara Falls. US News has said the Balkan country often flies under most radars, especially when compared to its neighbouring country Croatia.

Montenegro is a small country with a population of just more than 600,000 people. It's home to beautiful beaches located along the Adriatic sea, with stunning views of mountains and also medieval towns. But the biggest pull factor of the country is the Cijevna waterfall, Montenegro's very own Niagara Falls.

The best time to visit the falls is during the summer. They are located just a 10-minute drive from Podgorica.

Lonely Planet has said that locals are often found taking you'll find locals taking a dip in the falls in early summer.

If you are looking for a bit of culture on your trip, you can visit the historic towns of Kotor and Perast on the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor, that features impressive Baroque architecture.

Other highlights of visiting Montenegro include rafting through the Tara River Canyon - the deepest canyon in Europe - relaxing on Sveti Stefan Beach or hiking in Durmitor National Park.

Tycoons are often found sunbathing off the coast on their superyachts, due to the billions of pounds spent on building marinas and there are plenty of five-star hotels from some of the world's biggest chains available along the beaches.

The hottest months to visit Montenegro are during July and August, when the temperature reaches 28C.

June and September are also good times to visit the country if you are looking for slightly cooler temperatures that surface at around 24C.

With the country being an underrated spot to visit, flights are generally quite cheap with flights from London Stansted to Podgorica in June for as low as £31 one way.
