viewers took to social media in droves to issue scathing complaints about presenter . The broadcaster was alongside his co-star Ellie Costello for the breakfast programme to discuss the UK's migrant crisis.

Although there was an exclusive clip from Patrick Christys live from Calais where he interviews people who had just crossed the sea on dinghies, fans were left distracted by Eamonn's habit. When the show returned to the studio, the 65-year-old could be spotted chewing as Ellie introduced their guest, former Conservative special advisor, Charlie Rowley. One furious viewer raged: "Why is Holmes allowed to stuff himself live on TV? So bl**dy unprofessional."

Another fumed: "Is it possible to stop Holmes stuffing his face every two minutes. If not, please make sure he isn't chewing and munching when on the camera. It's very disturbing."

As a third remarked: "Eamonn takes 'his breakfast show' to new levels. You can now enjoy watching him eat it."

"Eammon, stop eating, chewing, and sucking your teeth! It's really unpleasant to see!!! Every morning you do this!!" a fourth complained.

This sentiment was echoed, as one commented: "Eamonn, it doesn't look good when the crumbs from the Greggs sausage roll are falling down your suit."

The Daily Express has contacted Eamonn and GB News for comment.

Following the reports that nearly 1,200 migrants have crossed the English Channel since Sunday, Charlie stated: "There's obviously an attraction to the UK.

"That's why people pass through so many countries, including France, deemed a safe country, but people want to get to the UK, people that Patrick was talking to there said they had family in London.

"People have made the perilous journey, family members have made that journey, and they've settled in London, whether it's in hotels, as we've seen all too often across the country."

He continued: "There's clearly a pull factor into the UK, maybe because there's no deterrent. The Labour government scrapped the Rwanda policy, whether that was the right thing or not, it seemed to be a deterrent at the time."
