More than one in five Brits agree on their dream car type, although younger generations were much more optimistic about owning it. According to new research Aston Martin convertibles are the number one dream car for Brits .
In the study by car-sharing marketplace Turo revealed that Black emerged as the overwhelming colour choice at 31%, making the black Aston Martin convertible the ultimate car in a study based on 2000 adults across the generations. Aston Martin was the only brand to appear twice in the top five, with hard-top models making the list for 9% of people - a combined 20% that dwarfs any competitor.
This British brand dominance may suggest influence from James Bond, as 007's car of choice throughout many films.
Pierce Brosnan's run as James Bond featured a variety of Aston Martins, including the V12 Vanquish in Die Another Day, while Daniel Craig made his debut with the DBS in Casino Royale, which became the first Bond film to have two different Aston Martins actively feature in the same film.
However, the research shows dreams faded dramatically with age, with confidence of owning the car eroding from a peak of 71% among Gen Z, to just 4% for those aged 61-79.
The study also revealed striking gender differences, with men being nearly twice as likely to believe they'll own their dream car as women, at 48% to 21%.
The Scottish Highlands emerged as the ultimate riving destination, beating even the world-famous Route 66 with 18% of the vote, compared to 13% for the US icon.
Rory Brimmer, UK Managing Director at car-sharing marketplace Turo, said: "The love of convertibles is deeply embedded in British culture - from Bond's iconic Aston Martin to that vision of driving through the Scottish Highlands with the roof down on a perfect summer's day - it captures something fundamental about freedom and escape."
