Yes, we've all been there. Some friends arrive for the weekend and want to use your Wi-Fi, but once again, you've forgotten that almost impossible-to-remember password printed on the back of the router. This usually means getting on your knees, shining a torch on the box, and shouting out numerous letters and numbers in the hope that your pals type in the code correctly. It's a massive pain, but reckons it has the answer.
In a recent the Internet Service Provider (ISP) reminded its users about a very simple way to share your Wi-Fi with others without needing to go near the router.
"It's a moment played out in every home that has internet access in every country across the world," Virgin said.
"Your friend asks you for the WiFi password (normally within five minutes of entering your house), and because you've sensibly picked a tricky password with numbers, symbols and a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters... you can't remember it."
To solve this nightmare, Virgin says that users can simply launch its Connect app on their phones, log in using their account details and then head to the Home tab where they'll find a QR code.
Visitors then scan this for an instant log in to the Wi-Fi.
Another bonus of using this option is that you can pause the connection whenever you like. So, if a neighbour drops by and asks for the code, you can then let them access your broadband whilst they stay but block them when they leave.
"If at any point you want to revoke or pause access to a device, you can also select the Broadband tab. From there, you can pause any device you want," Virgin added.
Of course, there are some other ways to share your Wi-Fi code thanks to features from Apple and Google with both of these tech giants letting you ping the passwords to friends and family with minimal fuss.
