Jaipur: Five members of a family, including a six-month-old girl, were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a multi-axle truck near Jamwa Ramgarh Sunday.
DIG (Jaipur Rural) Anand Sharma said the victims were identified as Satya Prakash (60), his wife Rama Devi (55), their son Abhishek (35), daughter-in-law Priyanshi (30), and their infant granddaughter. All were residents of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The family was en route to the Khatu Shyam Temple when their car collided with an oncoming truck around 8am.
The accident occurred near the Nekawala toll plaza on the Manoharpur-Dausa highway, under Raisar police station limits. A police team from Raisar reached the accident site and found the family's Hyundai Verna completely mangled. "The front of the car was crumpled beyond recognition, with engine parts torn away and debris scattered across the road," an officer said. The truck had overturned off the road, and many car passengers were trapped inside. Rescue teams struggled for hours to extricate the bodies from the wreckage.
Police suspect the crash may have occurred during an overtaking attempt, though this is yet to be confirmed. "We are examining all angles, including potential overtaking, but an investigation is still underway," the official added.
Mayank Soni, a relative of the family, told TOI over the phone that the family travelled from Lucknow Saturday after attending a family function. They set off early Sunday for the temple in Sikar district but met with the tragedy 70km short of their destination.
Officials confirmed that Abhishek, who was driving the car, worked as a software engineer, while his wife Priyanshi was employed at a leading bank in Lucknow. The couple married in 2022. "We have informed the immediate relatives. The bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital's mortuary and will be handed over to the family after post-mortem," the official said.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the accident.
