Kanpur: Host Kanpur started its campaign with a winning note in the Under-20 UP inter- divisional state football tournament defeating Agra by 5-1 at DeenDayal Sanatan Dharam School ground here on Friday.
In the four matches played on Friday, Gorakhpur in the second match drubbed Jhansi by 2-1.
Ayodhya outplayed Chitrakoot by 4-2 in tie breaker after 2-2 tie in the stipulated time. Both the teams scored one goal in the first half and the score was 1-1. Ayodhya took the lead in the second half when Rupesh Yadav scored a goal. Just two minutes before the final whistle, Suraj deceived the Ayodhya goalkeeper and netted a goal to bring parity for Chitrakoot.
The organisers applied the tie breaker rule for the result and Ayodhya converted two penalties into goals. While Chitrakoot players failed to convert a penalty into a goal.
Tie between Lucknow and Aligarh was well contested in the first half. Both the teams opened the game on an attacking note. The first half was goal less. Lucknow got success in breaking the deadlock when Sahil scored a goal from header. After this goal Aligarh team became nervous and their defence scattered.
Lucknow players took the benefit of the situation and Rohit Kanaujia and Arnav Gosain both scored one goal each to finish the tally 3-0. Ranveer Malik, who was the chief guest of Friday, was introduced to the players.
