Kanpur: In a tragic accident, a 50-year-old NCC teacher died, and his co-worker sustained serious injuries after a speeding milk delivery vehicle from a private dairy firm plunged off the old Govindpuri bridge. The vehicle broke through the railing and landed on station road, trapping two NCC instructors who were on a motorcycle beneath it.
They were rescued and admitted to a private hospital, where one was pronounced dead, while the other sustained severe injuries. The incident resulted in significant traffic congestion on both sides of the bridge, which the traffic police resolved after an hour of effort.
The deceased, Krishna Mohan Shukla, aged 50, from Barra Two, was an NCC teacher at JNK Inter in Nazirabad. He is survived by his wife, Reena, and two children. Reena told TOI that on Thursday after his shift, Shukla visited the NCC headquarters in Civil Lines with his colleague Yogendra Yadav, an NCC instructor from Pukhraya.
Police arrived promptly and facilitated the rescue operation using a crane.
Medical staff at the private hospital confirmed Krishna Mohan's death, while Yogendra remains in a critical state. Witnesses reported that at approximately 2pm, the vehicle laden with milk crates, was travelling towards Govindnagar from the bridge. The vehicle lost control on the descent due to excessive speed, broke through the barrier, and fell off the bridge. The accident also resulted in minor injuries to several other bikers and cyclists.
Govindnagar inspector confirmed that the driver fled the scene. Authorities have impounded the vehicle and milk crates, and legal proceedings are underway.
