Charu Asopa’s recent move from Mumbai to her hometown Bikaner with daughter Ziana has sparked widespread attention—not only for her bold step toward a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle, but also for the backlash her ex-husband Rajeev Sen is now facing online.
The actress, known for her roles in popular TV shows, has decided to step away from acting to focus on building her own clothing brand. In a candid interview with Times of India TV, Charu explained the motivation behind her decision. “I tried to buy a house in Mumbai but it is too expensive and I can’t afford it,” she said. “In Mumbai, rent and other living costs can go up to 1–2 lakhs a month. With that money, I can pay an EMI and build my own home in Bikaner.” She added that managing her finances and raising her daughter would be much easier and more stable in her hometown.
Rajeev Sen, however, quickly dismissed Charu’s claims, telling us exclusively, “When she can afford to buy a house in Bikaner, how come financial struggle?” He suggested her narrative was meant to gain sympathy and said, “This is just to put me down.”
This statement did not sit well with the internet. Netizens quickly jumped to Charu’s defense, calling out Rajeev for his lack of support and empathy. Comments flooded social media, criticizing his indifference:
“How can a father not take any responsibility of their kid?!!! Shame on him!!”
“The father should be less materialistic to himself and ensure his kid enjoys his company and support.”
“He’s busy sipping Starbucks and living a lavish lifestyle while Charu is doing everything alone.”
“I feel bad for Ziana. Why should only the mother sacrifice everything? Rajeev flies business class, owns homes across cities, but can’t split basic child expenses?”
Charu and Rajeev were married from 2019 to 2023. Though the couple tried to reconcile several times during the separation, there have been several differences between the two.
