Prabhu Deva, a star who rose from the south and took over the entire entertainment industry has turned a year older and wiser today. And it appears as the years are passing he is becoming more humble. He is one of the most talented stars who wears different hats - choreographer, actor, director- yet when asked who the real Prabhu Deva is, the birthday boy blushed and shared, “It’s not as if I planned all of this.”
“I started as a dancer, and if you ask me which of the career choices I like best, it would have to be dancing and choreography. Whatever I did later was because of the recognition I gathered as a dancer,” shared Prabhu Deva with us exclusively.
Prabhu Deva on dancing and acting
To Prabhu, dancing is “liberating”. “I enjoy expressing myself through dancing,” said the ‘Mukkabla’ fame dancer. However, he feels he is not the best in the country. “There are so many more dancers, much more talented than me, who never got a platform and an opportunity. I happened to be the right place at the right time,” he shared.
Further, Prabhu admitted to being an “accidental actor”. “I don’t know why producers thought I could act. But here I am, busy as an actor in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam also,” he said.
Prabhu Deva on direction
As for direction, Prabhu has not directed a film since ‘Radhe’ in 2021. “I am not saying never-again to direction. But for now, the acting assignments occupy most of my time,” shared Prabhu on the subject of returning behind the camera.
Mumbai is a second home
Last but not least, in the same conversation, Prabhu, who is now Chennai-stationed, mentioned that he loves Mumbai and looks forward to returning. “I have so many friends in the Hindi film industry. Mumbai is my second home,” concluded the National Award-winning artist.
