UFC executive Hunter Campbell has revealed he regularly confronts Dana White about his high-stakes gambling habits, which have seen the UFC President lose as much as $3 million in a single night at Las Vegas casinos. Hunter Campbell made these comments during Adin Ross's Brand Risk Promotions event on Friday, expressing concern over the "unnecessary trauma" Dana White's gambling causes, even when he wins.
Hunter Campbell worries about Dana White's well-being despite gambling successDana White, who serves as President and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has become legendary in Nevada gambling circles, where he's generally known more for winning than losing. However, his occasional massive losses have become the stuff of legend, including the infamous $3 million night that Hunter Campbell referenced.
"I watch him, and literally some days I'll call him the next morning and say 'I love you, I feel f—ing sick. I literally went home last night, it was three in the morning, and I was physically sick watching what you did to yourself,” Hunter Campbell told streamer Adin Ross during Friday's Brand Risk Promotions event in Miami, which Dana White also attended.
Even when Dana White wins at the tables, it seems to take a toll on Hunter Campbell, who runs the UFC business with White under the TKO umbrella. “I don't understand. Even when he wins it's like unnecessary trauma," Campbell explained that he doesn't have that thing in him.
Hunter Campbell makes a fundamental comparison between gambling and fighting and argues that a person is a gambler by nature and not just by how good they are at handling risk. He thinks people are either endowed with this or they are not — it has nothing to do with courage or fear, but with one’s native disposition.
When boxing champion Teofimo Lopez said that betting cautiously is the reason why people don’t get rich, Hunter Campbell pushed back against this. But Hunter Campbell responded that the smart thing to do if you're already wealthy is conservative betting because you can keep your wealth rather than throwing it away. According to him, there are many legitimate points of view on gambling strategy, especially among those who already have financial security.
