VARANASI: PM Modi Friday expressed concern over the recent gang rape of a 19-year-old in his constituency and instructed officials to ensure strictest action against perpetrators. Immediately after landing at Varanasi airport , Modi sought details of the actions initiated so far while interacting with police commissioner Mohit Agrawal, divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma and DM S Rajalingam near the runway strip.

The officials briefed him in detail about the case and the action taken. Modi directed them to identify all those involved in the heinous crime and ensure the strictest possible action against them. He also emphasised the need for robust and effective measures to prevent such cases in future.

The police chief said three more accused were arrested and sent to jail after being produced before a court Friday. Police lodged an FIR on April 7 on the complaint of a woman that 23 persons had raped her 19-year-old daughter over seven days. By April 8, nine accused were arrested. TNN
