NEW DELHI: Thanks to the Kumbh’s maha push to air traffic and benign oil prices, IndiGo on Wednesday reported a profit of Rs 3,067.5 crore in Jan-March 2025. 62% more than the profit of Rs 1,895 crore in same quarter last fiscal. This is the second highest quarterly profit for the airline, a shade less than its record of Rs 3,089 crore reported in April-June 2023.
The airline saw a revenue of Rs 84,098.2 crore in FY 25 — making it cross the $10 billion mark, 18% more than Rs 71,231.2 crore in FY 2024. Its profit in FY 2025 was Rs 7,258.4 crore, 11% less than Rs 8,172.5 crore in FY 24. The airline’s scrip closed 0.4% up at Rs 5,465.65 on BSE Monday when the broader market was up 0.5%.
IndiGo has declared a dividend of Rs 10 per share. Airline CEO Pieter Elbers said: “Our sustained performance is the result of record passenger volumes, operational efficiencies…. (over) 11.8 crore customers in FY25… Further, our continued performance and strong balance sheet has also been recognised by a leading international credit rating agency by assigning an investment grade credit rating.”
Speaking about the impact since the closure of Pakistan airspace for Indian carriers and then airport, he said of the 32 airports closed in north, west and central India during Operation Sindoor, IndiGo has flights to 11 of them. It has resumed flights to all those places after the airports reopened and “demand is coming back” on those routes.
“We had cancelled 170 daily flights during the time the airports were closed. Thirty-four of our flights now have a longer flying time of about 20 minutes (longer route to bypass Pakistan). Two of our international flights are suspended,” he said.
About the wet lease aircraft of Turkish Airways which IndiGo uses between Delhi/Mumbai and Istanbul for which the airline has sought another six-month extension, he said: “Operations to Istanbul are in the context of air service agreements between India and Turkey. Thousands of Indian passengers are booked to travel beyond Istanbul (on Turkish code share flights). IndiGo is fully compliant with regulatory norms.”
IndiGo expects to start getting its Airbus A320 XLRs (extralong range) before the end of this fiscal, or even the calendar year.
