NEW DELHI: Pakistan has called for the intervention of Russia, China and or other "Western countries" seeking an investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. He questioned the basis on which India accused the neighbouring nation of being involved in the attack that led to suspension of Indus Water Treaty and cutting off trade ties and closing of borders.
"I think Russia or China or even Western countries can play a very, very positive role in this crisis and they can even set up an investigation team that should be assigned this job to investigate whether India or Modi is lying or he is telling the truth. Let an international team find out," Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif told Russian government-run RIA Novosti news agency.
"Let's find out who is the culprit and the perpetrator of this incident in India, in Kashmir, talk or empty statements have no effect. There must be some evidence that Pakistan is involved or that these people were supported by Pakistan. These are just statements, empty statements and nothing more," he added.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reacted to the ongoing tensions between the two nations and suggested that the States had no intention to interfere. "There have been tensions on that border for 1,500 years. It's been the same, but I am sure they'll figure it out one way or the other. I know both leaders. There's great tension between Pakistan and India, but there always has been," he said.
Meanwhile, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken charge of the terror attack case, ramping up efforts to gather evidence and interrogate eyewitnesses in a bid to uncover the terror conspiracy, officials confirmed on Sunday. Acting on directives from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), the anti-terror agency registered a case in Jammu and deployed several teams for the investigation.
