Bharatiya Janata Party member and Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Tuesday said that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is only fond of her seat and not the country and accused her of reducing Hindus and giving space to Bangladeshi intruders in the state.
While speaking with reporters, Vijayvargiya said, "She (Mamata Banerjee) is only worried about her seat. She is trying to reduce the number of Hindus wherever she can and giving space to Bangladeshi intruders in the state. She has no affection for the country, and this is why there is violence in Murshidabad....The Union Governmnet is serious about the situation there (West Bengal)..."
The unrest initiated on April 11 in Murshidabad district during demonstrations against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The situation deteriorated, resulting in two fatalities, numerous injuries, and substantial property destruction. The disturbance expanded to Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly districts.
Odisha Police apprehended six suspects on Monday connected to the Murshidabad district violence from their concealment in Jharsuguda. Officials confirmed their involvement in arson and rioting in Jafrabad and Betbona villages. Authorities are investigating their possible connection to the district's double homicide case.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a fierce criticism of Mamata Banerjee regarding the recent unrest in Murshidabad district, stating she practises favouritism under the veil of secularism.
In his statement to ANI on Tuesday, Dhami stated, "The kind of issues that are happening in Bengal, the whole country is agitated...in the name of secularism, the kind of appeasement politics Mamata Banerjee is doing, reminds us of 1947-48." He additionally remarked that contemporary India differs from 1947, predicting Banerjee's political downfall.
BJP representative Agnimitra Paul voiced grave concerns about the violence, describing it as orchestrated "ethnic cleansing" allegedly conducted with support from West Bengal's Chief Minister and local authorities. She demanded an NIA investigation whilst speaking to ANI.
Mamata Banerjee responded on Saturday with a public plea for harmony. She alleged that BJP and associated organisations, including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), were utilising the situation for political advantage. Her open letter suggested certain groups were exploiting an unfortunate incident to promote division.
