Rain Alert Issued for Three Chhattisgarh Districts Amid Cyclonic Developments

Send Push

RAIPUR, April 12 The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for three districts in Chhattisgarh — Dhamtari, Gariaband, and Kanker — as changing weather patterns bring the possibility of thunderstorms and rainfall. This warning follows a shift in weather dynamics due to multiple atmospheric systems affecting central and eastern India.

Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay of Bengal Drives Weather Shift

A cyclonic circulation forming over the west-central Bay of Bengal, combined with the influence of a western disturbance and trough line systems, has prompted meteorologists to forecast light rain and thunderstorms across parts of Chhattisgarh within the next 24 hours. Meteorological expert H.P. Chandra confirmed the presence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation system active up to 1.5 kilometers above sea level. The system is drawing moisture-laden winds into the region, creating favorable conditions for scattered showers and storm activity.

Yellow Alert for Dhamtari, Gariaband, and Kanker

Authorities have issued a yellow weather alert for Dhamtari, Gariaband, and Kanker districts, warning of potential thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and moderate rainfall. Residents are advised to remain cautious and stay updated through official weather channels. Wind gusts and lightning activities may pose temporary disruptions, especially in rural areas and forested zones.

Cloud Cover Persists Over Raipur and Surrounding Areas

In addition to the specific alerts, cloud cover has been observed across Raipur and several other parts of the state. The western disturbance currently positioned at approximately 70°E longitude and 26°N latitude is expected to influence northern India, indirectly contributing to weather fluctuations across Chhattisgarh. The IMD continues to monitor evolving patterns as the convergence of cyclonic and westerly systems increases the likelihood of unstable weather in the coming days.
