Yellow Alert Issued in Six Districts of Chhattisgarh Amid Rain and Storm Forecast

IMD Warns of Thunderstorms, Rainfall, and Hail in Parts of the State

Raipur, April 28 — Residents across Chhattisgarh, including the capital Raipur, experienced relief from intense heat as late-night showers cooled temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted further rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms across several districts today, issuing a yellow alert for six regions.

The affected districts under yellow alert are Balodabazar, Bemetara, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Mahasamund, and Raipur. IMD has predicted rainfall, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorm activity in these areas over the next few hours.

Weather Changes Likely to Cause Temperature Drop

According to meteorologist H.P. Chandra, light rain or thundershowers are expected at isolated places on April 28. Some areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, hail, and lightning strikes. This change in weather is also likely to result in a 3-4°C drop in maximum temperatures across the state.

Chandra explained that a western disturbance currently lies as a trough in the mid-tropospheric levels, positioned at 77°E longitude and 32°N latitude. Additionally, a north-south trough extends from Vidarbha to the Gulf of Mannar up to an altitude of approximately 0.9 kilometers. Another low-pressure trough extends from Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh at the same height.

Rainfall and Temperature Observations

Over the past 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated locations across Chhattisgarh. The highest maximum temperature in the state was observed in Durg at 42.4°C, while the lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Jagdalpur at 21.1°C.

Residents in the alert zones are advised to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall periods. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to manage any potential disruptions.
